Keynote#1: Takahira Yamaguchi, Keio University, Japan

A User-Centric Platform PRINTEPS to Develop Intelligent Robot Applications

PRINTEPS platform incorporates knowledge representation and reasoning, machine learning, speech dialogue, image sensing and motion planning. The program is supplied in modular form, allowing end users to select those modules required and build in process and business rules that are specific to the required tasks. The work editor is a user-friendly interface, from which PRINTEPS automatically creates code to run on the robot operating system.

Short bio

Takahira Yamaguchi is a Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology at Keio University, Japan.
He received his BE, ME, and PhD degrees in telecommunication engineering from Osaka University, Japan.
His research interests include Applied Ontologies and Intelligent Robotics.
He was a president of Japanese Society of AI from 2012 to 2014.

Sightseeing Informatics 2.0: Mining and Utilizing Crowd Wisdom of Sightseeing

Tourism is one of the most important industry in the 21st century. In our group, we are studying information technology to overcome overtourism to realize the sustainable tourism society. In this talk, I will introduce our research activities on UGC(User Generated Content) mining for sightseeing knowledge discovery and its applications. Especially, I will talk about the research about user modeling, quality estimation of sightseeing spots, and tour recommendation.

Short bio

Qiang Ma, received his Ph.D. Degree from Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University in 2004. He was a research fellow (DC2) of JSPS from 2003 to 2004. He joined National Institute of Information and Communication Technology as an expert researcher in 2004. From 2006 to 2007, he served as an assistant manager at NEC. From October 2007, he joined Kyoto University as an assistant professor and has been an associate professor since August 2010. His general research interests are in the area of multimedia information systems, data mining and social informatics. His current interests include sightseeing informatics, investment informatics, and Informational Nutrition (information complementation).

Short Bio

Before joining Expedia, I had worked at E-commerce company in Japan. Mainly managed PMI and the strategic planning for international market after the success of E-commerce business in Japan market and then, physically moved to the South East Asia and accelerated E-commerce business as a Director.After joining Expedia group, I have managed the supply side in Kansai region and launched Regional Development Office in order to corporate with Japan Tourism Agency and local governments and regularly conducted Inbound seminars.

Call for Participation

This event aims to discuss the advancement, applications, and implications of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and automation in the tourism and hospitality industry. The main IFITTtalk@Kyoto workshop will be held on Thursday, 17 October 2019. Topics that we aim to discuss include, but are not limited to:
– AI and customer engagement
– Robots and service management
– Automation and its implications on human resource management
– AI and its implications on information management, finance, etc. in tourism businesses
– Impacts of AI on tourism education
– Impacts of AI on future labor market
– Intersection of AI, Big Data, and Internet-of-Things (IoT) in tourism
On the 1st day, presentations will be organized in multiple ways: research presentations, moderated panel discussions with multiple short presentations, and a focused work group discussion to identify strategic areas for future research in AI, robotics, and automation in tourism and hospitality services.

Call for Participation
Scholars from various disciplines at all career stages, including graduate students, are invited to submit a 500-words abstract by 30th September 2019.

Registration Fee
The event is free for all presenters, IFITT members, and IT Consortium Kyoto members. The registration fee for the workshop is JPY 2,000 for other workshop participants.
